Glacier Bible Camp
I had never heard of Family Camp until I moved to Montana. Turns out, it’s a wonderful week-long conference on a campground in Hungry Horse, MT. (Yes, the town is called Hungry Horse, named for a couple of horses that got lost in the winter of 1900 and were later found, skinny and hungry, but alive. Couldn’t go on without clearing that up.)
The campground is called Glacier Bible Camp, owned by The Montana District Council of the Assemblies of God, and has a magnificent lodge, as well as dorms and campsites. There is a 1000-seat tabernacle and a smaller prayer chapel, along with a cafeteria, snack shack, basketball and volleyball courts and an outdoor amphitheater! All surrounded by beautiful trees, a river and mountains.
Family Camp
We live close. Just a 25-min. drive and we’re there. Summer is Scott’s work season, so we don’t try to stay on the campground, but we drive up for as many services as possible and I’ve been privileged to sing a special once during the week for many years.
Family Camp is a really cool thing. It starts over 4th of July weekend and runs for eight days. In the weeks to follow, we have tons of kids cycling through for a week that will change their spiritual lives. First, Junior Teen Camp, then Senior Teen, then Kids Camp. Many more events take place at Glacier Bible Camp throughout the year.
Keep Going
Last night, the speaker was Les Welk, the Superintendent for the Northwest Ministry Network of the Assemblies of God. What a powerful Word.
It wasn’t about pushing through to great heights and he wasn’t trying to get everyone “amped up” on a spiritual high. Les talked about Gal. 6:9, which says, “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
Dig Ditches
Then, he took us to a passage in the Old Testament (II Kings 3) where he told us we need to—wait for it—dig ditches. That was the whole key to a military victory because God did a miracle after the army dug ditches. (Check out the story here. It’s amazing.)
Sometimes God promises us victory and then the thing He asks us to do to receive that victory is mundane, boring, and feels an awful lot like work! Sometimes we have to trust that as we plod faithfully on, regardless of how it feels or if it seems like progress to us or not, that God will use our obedience to bring us to victory. He always will.
God Will Show Up
I find that very encouraging. In the areas where it seems like I’m doing what I’m supposed to, but I’m not seeing Big Results yet, I just need to – keep going. So I will. We must not give up if we want to see the harvest. The ditches must be dug for God to do His miracle. Join me?
